A triumph of German engineering! This blend of two hybrids is Germany's most popular red grape. It is easy ripening variety which makes it an ideal red for the cool German climate. This Dornfelder is a gorgeous deep purple wine redolent of cassis, spicy orange zest, black pepper, and crunchy dark berries. Dornfelder is a dynamic red that pairs well with just about anything, but is especially at home with ethnic foods, spicy or not... Chill it down a little and you'll notice the fruit has even more 'pop' to it and makes the wine all the more quaffable.
| Technical notes |
| A cross of Helfensteiner (an amalgam of Pinot Noir and Schiava) and Heroldrebe (a cross itself of Portugieser and Blaufrankisch and named for August Herold, who, confusingly, also created Dornfelder), |
