| The history of Count Saladini Pilastri dates back to the year 1000; a noble family from Ascoli Piceno whose ancestors were priests and rulers. Count Saladini Pilastri's land has always produced wine, though in the past it was managed by tenant farmers who produced the wine to be aged by the Counts in the estate’s cellars.
The Saladini Pilastri winecellar is situated at the family’s splendid villa which dates from the 1400's. Saladini Pilastri Villa is two kilometres from Spinetoli, a picturesque medieval village in the Marches region of eastern Italy whose origins date back to the 5th century B.C.
The estate covers almost 800 acres on the limestone hills around Spinetoli and the sunny hills of Monte Prandone and Porto d'Ascoli. Half the production is Rosso Piceno, the traditional local wine.
Count Saladini Pilastri is a fervent believer of environmental preservation and has converted the estate to organic. No artificial fertilizers or pesticides are utilized. They use natural products such as copper sulfate and beneficial insects to combat common vine diseases and harmful insects. This results in lower yields, but higher quality and less impact on the environment. |
