Antonio Benedetto Carpano of Turin invented the recipe for vermouth, the Italian aperitif par excellence, in 1786. Developed from wine and 30 varieties of spices and herbs this recipe has been preserved until today, and only a very limited quantity, now known as Carpano Antica Formula is available on the market.
